Prayer for the New Year
A Prayer for Our Lived Faith in the New Year
(A Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition)
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low by thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven.
Amen.

MISSION TRIPS ON THE HORIZON:
Dulac, Louisiana - Three months ago, many of you watched with great sadness as Hurricanes Gustav and Ike wreaked havoc in Louisiana and Texas. Hurricane Ike pretty much thumped down on Dulac, causing more damage than Rita and Katrina. In response to the great need to recover from Gustav and Ike, the Conference Lenten VIM trip to the Gulf Coast will once again go to Dulac. Ricky Nelson, who for the past two years has worked as a consultant for UMCOR, will lead the March team. You may
contact Larry Buterbaugh Details of this VIM Experience …
Project location: Dulac, Louisiana
Dates: March 20-28, 2009
Cost: $350 (covers gasoline costs, room and board while in Dulac, overnight stay in motel half-way coming and going, T-shirt, insurance)
Transportation: personal vehicles
Housing: bunk rooms in the Dulac Community Center.
Project: To share God’s love by re-building after Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Haiti - This past hurricane season the US was hit by two hurricanes – Gustav and Ike. Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, was hit by four hurricanes. Diane Miller, Conference VIM/Missions Coordinator, is working at setting up a mission trip to Haiti later this year. Watch for details in the coming months.
New Orleans, Louisiana – Trinity is close to setting the dates for our next mission trip (NOLA VII) to New Orleans as we continue to help with the rebuilding of homes in the city – either April 18th to 26th or May 9th to 17th. Many folks have expressed an interest in participating in this wonderful experience, but don’t delay too long as the UMCOR/Louisiana Conference’s New Orleans Disaster Recovery Center may be closing in the spring of 2010. If you have any questions or a preference between the trip
dates listed above, please contact Rev. George Porter or Larry Buterbaugh.
TEACHER SALARY SUPPORT NEEDED IN HAITIAN METHODIST SCHOOLS
Teachers in Methodist run schools in Haiti are way behind on salary compensation for the year 2008. In some circuits, teachers have not been paid anything for the 2008 school year. Others have been given only half their compensation. They continue to work because of their dedication to the children and their faith in God.
If you can spare $25 or $50, or whatever is possible, please send a check to
“Teachers Salary Support, Haitian Methodist Church.”
There is not an Advance Special for this need and this avenue was offered as a logical, albeit slower way of getting funds to where they are needed.
Donette Lataillade, Guest House Manager, Methodist Guest House, will see to it that these funds get to the right place.
Please mail your check to the following address:

WORSHIP COMMITTEE - CINDY LONG
As the celebration of the 100th anniversary draws to a close, the Worship Committee has decided to add another chapter to our church history. The Chrismon tree has blessed our worship for many years with its symbols to remind us of the life of Christ, our Savior. Dawn Spence has created a wonderful insert showing photos and descriptions of many of the chrismons.
We would like to be able to document who made each one and when it was made. If you had a part in the process, please share your information with me. Either write down your name, the symbol you made, and the approximate time it was created, or see me and I will make the notes for you.
Many thanks to each of you who has been a part of this ministry.

SPRC
The mission of the Staff Parish Relations Committee is to oversee the staff of the church. It is the committee’s responsibility to hire, determine duties, support, assess, set salaries, and terminate employees. The committee also oversees the Safe Sanctuary Guidelines and handles conflict resolution between staff and church members. Each staff member is assigned to a committee member as a liaison for support and communication.
A heartfelt thank you to our retiring members: Andy Bishop, Nadene L’Amoreaux, and Linda Love and a big welcome to our newly elected members: Kathy Eisensmith, Dave Flegle, and Dick Yanity.
During the past two years, we have been writing a position description for each staff position. This process was finally completed in December. These descriptions are on file in the office and available for anyone to view. We also have lists of duties for the custodians, secretary, and organists on file. We could not have finished these without the gracious help of staff members.
SPRC has received a letter of resignation from one of our custodians. Tom McLaughlin has accepted a safety training position in the oil-gas industry. We are very happy for him and give him a huge THANK YOU for his tireless hours of keeping Trinity spic-n-span. Good luck, Tom, in your new endeavor. Ron Kuzemchak has graciously, but temporarily, jumped back into his old job to tide us over for a couple of months. We hope to be able to find an “in house” replacement. If you know of anyone in the congregation who might be interested in becoming a permanent custodian,
please see Pastor George or Connie Sutton. This position is part-time (approximately 30 hours a week).
SPRC is accepting applications for one more paid nursery caregiver so that the current workers may attend worship on a more regular basis. If you are interested or know of someone who might be interested, please contact the
Church Office or anyone on the committee.
